Student Smuggles AK-47 In To School. Goes To Town On Own Ass

16-year-old Shane Joseph Halligan managed to smuggle a fully loaded AK-47 assault rifle into Springfield Township High School in Montgomery County and shoot himself. The school had two unarmed security guards but no metal detectors. Shane managed to get the rifle through by concealing it in a camouflage-style duffel bag (man that must have blended in well).
“You can’t screen kids before they get on the school bus, and so a kid can shoot another kid on the bus if he wants to… . Are you going to hire additional personnel to monitor doors? What about if one kid comes in clean, and another hands him a weapon through the window?” said Kenneth S. Trump, a nationally known school-safety consultant.
The big question is what’s so bad that kids have to go as far as to shoot themselves at school. In any case, the message Shane was trying to convey by shooting himself at school is one thing. The choice for using an AK-47 is quite another. Alas, the 17-year-old arrested and expelled from the same school less than three months previously for showing off a revolver in a bathroom seemed to have a better grip on the idea of subtlety.
